The recent government meeting celebrated the remarkable achievements of the Wright junior senior high school girls cross country team, who were honored for winning the 2023 2A Wyoming state championship. The meeting commenced with the Pledge of Allegiance, setting a patriotic tone before the recognition of the athletes.
Head coach Sarah Glasser introduced the team, highlighting their dedication and hard work that began during the summer with fundraising efforts to attend a training camp in Oregon. The team, which competed against 16 schools and 52 athletes, exceeded expectations, having been ranked second or third prior to the state competition.
Notable performances included freshman Caitlin Nolte, who placed eighth, and Carolina Navarro, who finished seventh. Senior Kylie Benham led the team with a second-place finish, running her best time of 21:45. The team's total score of 30 points secured their championship title, narrowly defeating Wyoming Indian, which scored 39 points.
The meeting concluded with expressions of gratitude towards the coaching staff and school administration for their support, as the team looks forward to a successful track season ahead.
