In a recent government meeting, the Springfield City Council held a first reading of an ordinance aimed at annexing a 22-foot-wide strip of land, previously addressed as 5353 Ivy Street, into the city. This territory, identified as part of assessor's map 18-2-4-0 and tax lot 307, is located between the developed Pinehurst subdivision and the developing Woodland Ridge neighborhood.
The annexation is deemed necessary to complete the transportation infrastructure for Woodland Ridge, allowing for the extension of Pinehurst and Holly Streets. Currently, the area presents a gap that hinders connectivity between the two neighborhoods. The developer of Woodland Ridge has acquired the property, which previously resisted annexation due to different ownership.
City staff confirmed that notifications regarding the annexation were sent to the neighborhood, and no public comments or concerns were raised during the meeting. The council emphasized the importance of this annexation in preventing the creation of isolated parcels of land that could complicate future development.
The council also discussed future access to the property, noting plans for further subdivision and residential development. The meeting concluded with the council opening and then closing the public hearing, with no immediate action taken on the ordinance.
