In a recent government meeting, Ken Hacker from the Morton Town Utility Boards outlined a comprehensive plan to upgrade the stormwater management system in response to community concerns. The initiative, developed in collaboration with local stakeholders, aims to enhance drainage and mitigate flooding risks in the area.
Hacker detailed the proposed improvements, which will extend from existing infrastructure along Valley View through the CZS property, encompassing both the maintenance area and fitness center. The plan includes the installation of new inlets and piping designed to efficiently collect and discharge stormwater into the upgraded system. This design is based on a prior study conducted by Strand and Associates, which assessed the necessary pipe sizes for effective stormwater management.
While the project has garnered support from various parties, including MUB, it is contingent upon finalizing a construction agreement and securing rights-of-way with CZS. Concerns were raised regarding access for tenants during construction, which will need to be addressed to ensure minimal disruption.
Lou Anne Hendershot, a homeowner and president of the Acorn Village association, expressed conditional support for the project, highlighting the need for ongoing communication and collaboration among all stakeholders involved. The meeting underscored the importance of community engagement in local infrastructure projects, particularly those addressing critical issues like stormwater management.
