In a recent presentation to the San Marino Unified School District (SMUSD) board, officials highlighted the district's impressive academic performance, showcasing data that positions it as a leader among local educational institutions. The presentation included comparisons of English Language Arts (ELA) and math proficiency rates from the past two years, revealing that SMUSD ranks at the top when measured against neighboring districts.
The data presented indicated that a significant percentage of students met or exceeded academic standards in both ELA and math for the 2024 school year, reinforcing the district's status as the top-performing unified school district in California. Additionally, the presentation included results from the 2024 California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAST) for science, where SMUSD outperformed all but one other district, underscoring the need for continued focus on science education.
To build on this success, district officials outlined a comprehensive list of actionable next steps aimed at promoting student progress. These initiatives include partnerships with focus schools for professional development, data-driven school scorecards, instructional rounds, and enhanced tutoring structures across all grade levels. The district is also committed to aligning its Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) goals with board priorities.
Following the presentation, school principals were invited to share their individual school data, with Principal Caldwell of Carver Elementary expressing pride in the collective achievements of the district. She emphasized that while only certain grades are tested, every teacher contributes to the overall success of students, highlighting a collaborative approach to education within the district.
The meeting concluded with a sense of optimism as district leaders and educators celebrated their accomplishments while remaining focused on continuous improvement for all students.
