During a recent government meeting, discussions highlighted the significant achievements and community initiatives of the Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS). Student Elliot Boyd expressed pride in participating in a large project led by renowned alum Pharrell Williams, emphasizing the importance of empowering young leaders to utilize their talents for community betterment.
VBCPS received recognition as the fifth-best school division in Virginia by Niche, a national ranking service that compiles reviews from students, parents, and educators. Testimonials from students and parents underscored the supportive environment and specialized instruction available, particularly at the high school level, where various academies cater to diverse interests. Notably, Ocean Lakes High School ranked 11th in the state, with Princess Anne and Kellam High Schools also earning commendable positions.
In addition to academic accolades, the meeting addressed the vital support provided to families in need. GEICO recently donated $15,000 to the Virginia Beach Education Foundation, which will fund the Beach Bags program. This initiative aims to assist families struggling with food insecurity by distributing at least 3,000 bags filled with nutritious items over weekends and holiday breaks. Last year, the program successfully distributed 47,000 bags, showcasing the community's commitment to supporting its students.
The meeting concluded with a call for further donations to the Beach Bags program, encouraging community members to visit the Virginia Beach Education Foundation's website for contributions. The collaborative efforts of students, parents, educators, and local businesses continue to foster a nurturing educational environment in Virginia Beach.
