During a recent government meeting, city officials discussed proposed zoning changes and public concerns regarding the installation of roundabouts in residential areas. The meeting highlighted the ongoing efforts to amend local ordinances, specifically Ordinance 2024-28 and Ordinance 2024-29, both of which aim to implement recommendations from the planning commission. Council member Miss Knappick emphasized the need for further public input before moving forward, stating that both ordinances would remain on first reading until the next public hearing scheduled for November 4.
The discussion also included a motion to extend the time allowed for public comments from two minutes to four minutes, which was approved unanimously. This change aims to give residents more opportunity to voice their opinions on pressing issues.
One of the primary concerns raised during public comments came from local residents Mike and Tammy Townsend, who expressed strong opposition to the proposed roundabouts. They argued that the construction would significantly impact their property, hinder access to their driveway, and pose safety risks for children walking to school. The Townsends highlighted that many residents, including bus drivers, are against the roundabout plan and are gathering signatures to oppose it.
The meeting underscored the importance of community engagement in local governance, as officials acknowledged the need to keep residents informed and involved in discussions that directly affect their neighborhoods.
