A survey revealed that the majority of respondents identified this stretch as the most problematic, with 86% expressing feelings of unsafety while traveling there.

The survey, which garnered 270 responses, indicated overwhelming support for joint access driveway connections as a primary improvement strategy, with 100% public backing. Additionally, 90% of participants favored adaptive signal controls to alleviate congestion. The survey also noted that 78% of respondents were Martin County residents, emphasizing local engagement in the discussions.

Concerns about pedestrian safety were prevalent, especially regarding the lack of proper multimodal paths for students traveling to Jensen Beach High School. Many community members reported witnessing students navigating unsafe routes to access local businesses, such as Starbucks. Interviews conducted along the corridor revealed that residents and business owners identified the intersections at Jensen Beach Boulevard and Joan Jefferson Way as critical areas needing improvement, particularly during peak hours from 4:30 to 6 PM.

Participants also expressed frustration with aggressive driving behaviors, including running red lights and unsafe U-turns, exacerbated by traffic backups. The need for protected bike lanes was another recurring theme, as many felt current conditions were inadequate for cyclists.

The meeting underscored the importance of enhancing multimodal connectivity, with suggestions for connecting parking lots and creating safer pedestrian pathways. As the community continues to voice its concerns, officials are urged to prioritize these improvements to ensure safer and more efficient travel along US 1.
