San Bernardino County has once again distinguished itself on a national level, earning an impressive 160 achievement awards from the National Association of Counties (NACo) in 2023. This marks the second consecutive year that the county has received more accolades than any other in the United States, highlighting its commitment to innovation, efficiency, and public service among over 3,000 counties nationwide.
The awards recognize a variety of initiatives that have positively impacted the community. Notable achievements include the successful streamlining of staff training for the homeless point-in-time count, hosting 32 animal adoption events that resulted in over 1,600 pet adoptions, and enhancing the building inspection process. The county also prioritized public safety and communication during the El Dorado flood, educated children on oral health, and provided reentry support for individuals post-incarceration to help them reintegrate into the workforce.
Additionally, efforts to increase access to healthy foods for residents and the unveiling of the Curtain of Courage memorial were highlighted as part of the county's extensive service offerings. These accomplishments reflect the dedication of San Bernardino County employees, whose hard work has made this recognition possible.
