Elizabethtown Area High School recently wrapped up its Intent Decision Week for 2024, providing seniors with the opportunity to engage directly with representatives from 20 colleges and three military branches. This year’s event saw a remarkable 28% increase in participation, totaling 124 appointments, and resulted in a soaring acceptance rate of 97%, up from 90% last year. The school prides itself on being one of the few in Pennsylvania to host such a significant event, underscoring its commitment to enhancing educational and career pathways for students.
In addition to the college engagement, the school is gearing up for several upcoming events, including the fall play \"Arsenic and Old Lace,\" scheduled for November 7th and 9th, and the High School Orchestra's Pops concert on November 14th. A Veterans Day commemoration ceremony will also take place on November 11th at 10:15 AM, welcoming veterans from the community.
Community involvement was highlighted during the meeting, with gratitude expressed towards the East High Elementary School PTO and Bear Creek School PTO for their recent fundraising efforts. The East High PTO's fun run raised $9,800, while the Bear Creek PTO hosted a successful carnival, with proceeds benefiting various student initiatives.
Student representatives Emma and Monica addressed the board, emphasizing the importance of arts programs in the school, which engage around 170 students in music ensembles and over 100 in theater productions. They urged the community to support these programs amid discussions on potential budget cuts.
The meeting concluded with a transition to committee discussions, focusing on facilities and financial planning as the school prepares for the upcoming winter months.
