In a recent government meeting, officials provided updates on ongoing recovery efforts in North Carolina and Florida following the devastation caused by hurricanes Helene and Milton. President and Vice President emphasized their commitment to delivering aid to affected communities, with over 5,500 federal personnel currently deployed to assist in recovery operations.
Administrator DeAnne Criswell is actively engaged in North Carolina alongside Governor Roy Cooper and state officials to assess damage and facilitate the distribution of resources to survivors. To date, nearly $2 billion in federal assistance has been approved for those impacted by the storms, with North Carolina receiving more than $300 million. This includes over $130 million allocated to assist nearly 90,000 households.
FEMA has also approved more than $189 million specifically for debris removal and reimbursement for emergency protective measures. In a significant development, the administration announced the creation of a new program aimed at supporting communities in their recovery and rebuilding efforts.
Currently, 15 disaster recovery centers are operational in North Carolina, having served over 5,700 visitors. Utility companies have made substantial progress, restoring power to 99% of affected customers thanks to the efforts of thousands of utility workers.
Officials credited the coordinated response and recovery efforts to the leadership of the President, Vice President, FEMA, and local authorities, reaffirming their commitment to utilizing all available resources to aid communities in their recovery from these disasters.
