In a recent meeting of the Contra Costa Transportation Authority (CCTA) planning committee, significant strides were made towards enhancing transportation accessibility and community engagement in Walnut Creek. The committee announced plans to collaborate with Caltrans to develop a comprehensive countywide evacuation plan, aimed at improving emergency preparedness across the region.
The meeting highlighted the ongoing efforts of the Accessible Transportation Fund, which focuses on providing transportation solutions for the elderly, infirm, and veterans. A new \"one-stop shop\" system is being established to streamline access to these services, supported by recent funding initiatives.
Mayor Haskett also shared positive feedback from the recent Contra Costa Mayors Conference held in Walnut Creek, where community leaders gathered to discuss local initiatives. The mayor took the opportunity to commend city staff for their exceptional service and dedication.
A key agenda item was the annual report for the Shadelands Property Business Improvement District (PBID), presented by Bob Blinscheid, president of the Chamber of Commerce. The PBID, established in 2014, aims to revitalize the Shadelands area by attracting innovative businesses and enhancing property values. Blinscheid outlined five overarching goals for the district, including improving mobility infrastructure, enhancing wayfinding, and promoting Shadelands as a vibrant destination.
Notably, the report revealed that the Route 7 shuttle service has successfully transported over 650,000 passengers since its inception, significantly reducing single-occupancy car trips and CO2 emissions. The PBID is also focusing on rebranding efforts to increase visibility and attract more visitors to the area.
The meeting concluded with a presentation on new marketing strategies, including a revamped website and social media campaigns designed to engage the community and promote local businesses. The city is committed to fostering a dynamic environment that supports both residents and visitors, ensuring Walnut Creek remains a desirable place to live, work, and play.
