In a recent government meeting, officials discussed the initiation of a new pilot program aimed at enhancing cybersecurity measures for local governments in Utah. The program, developed by the state’s cybersecurity planning committee, is designed to bolster the cyber maturity of local entities by addressing identified deficiencies through targeted initiatives and projects.
The funding for this program will be sourced from the state and local cybersecurity grant program (SLG, SLCGP) as well as state funds, with the first phase set to run until December 2025. Notably, the Utah Cyber Center is providing financial support for the initial phase, which is expected to conclude by the end of this year. A legislative bill has been proposed to secure funding for the second phase, which, if approved, would extend financial backing through 2030.
Communities participating in this pilot program include American Fork, Grama, Francis, and Scipio, highlighting the collaborative effort to improve cybersecurity infrastructure across the state. The initiative represents a significant opportunity for these local governments to enhance their defenses against cyber threats, ensuring better protection of their systems and data.
