Johnson outlined the multifaceted approach of Downtown Middletown Inc., which operates through four committees: promotions, economic development, organization, and design. The promotion committee focuses on supporting local businesses through events, while the economic development committee aims to attract new businesses and residential areas to downtown. The design committee, which Johnson chairs, is tasked with improving the overall appearance of the downtown area.

A key highlight of the meeting was the proposal for a new park and playground at Smith Park, designed to educate residents and visitors about the canal's historical significance. Johnson emphasized that the canal was a catalyst for Middletown's growth, facilitating trade and transportation, and played a crucial role in the region's development.
