In a heartfelt ceremony, Lauderdale West celebrated its 50th anniversary, marking a significant milestone for the community that has provided a unique living environment for residents aged 55 and older. Mayor Nick Sotto and the city council officially proclaimed September 18th as Lauderdale West Day, recognizing the community's dedication and contributions over the past five decades.
Lauderdale West, a nearly 300-acre property, is home to approximately 2,000 residents living in 1,359 single-family homes, duplexes, and fourplexes. The community is notable for its all-volunteer board, which manages various aspects of neighborhood life, including architectural review, insurance, and entertainment, fostering a strong sense of community involvement.
The celebration highlighted the numerous amenities available to residents, including a theater that hosts professional musicians, two swimming pools, a gym, and a unique woodshop that produces toys for children during the holiday season. The spirit of volunteerism is evident through various groups within the community, such as Sadasa and the Women of Lauderdale West, which work to enhance the lives of residents.
The event underscored the commitment of residents to maintain a clean and vibrant neighborhood, with regular communication facilitated through a bi-monthly newspaper, cable TV notices, and open board meetings. The pride in their community was palpable, as board members expressed gratitude for the recognition and emphasized the nurturing environment that Lauderdale West has cultivated over the years.
