Residents of Foxcroft voiced strong opposition to a proposed development during a recent city meeting, raising concerns about safety, traffic, and the impact on their community. The meeting featured several speakers, including community leaders and long-term residents, who highlighted the narrowness of Foxgrove Road, which they described as an alleyway unsuitable for increased traffic.
Roland Sherazard, president of the Foxcroft Community, emphasized the proximity of the new development to his home, noting that construction noise and traffic would significantly disrupt the neighborhood. He expressed fears of increased crime, citing past incidents, including a fatal shooting, and criticized the lack of a concrete plan from developers to address these issues.
Deborah Morgan, a resident of Foxcroft Condominiums, echoed these sentiments, pointing out that the proposed six-foot fence would not adequately protect children in the community from potential dangers. She also raised concerns about existing traffic congestion, particularly during school hours, and the confusion that could arise from the similar names of the new development and existing properties.
Ethlyn Satchel, another long-time resident, added that the height of the proposed building would unfairly overshadow their homes and contribute to a sense of being \"sandwiched\" between developments. She reiterated the community's worries about crime and the potential for confusion regarding mail and deliveries due to the similar names of the properties.
In response to the residents' concerns, city officials acknowledged the issues raised, particularly regarding the access to the private road owned by Foxcroft Condominium. The developers indicated that a name change for the new project could be considered, addressing one of the community's primary grievances.
As the meeting concluded, officials encouraged further public input, signaling that the concerns of Foxcroft residents would be taken into account as discussions about the development continue.
