During the recent government meeting, Deputy Chief Wade provided an update on the Sunbury Police Department's new facility at 220 North Columbus Street, highlighting the positive transition into the new building. The department is set to host an open house on November 7, which will be promoted through social media and flyers.
Wade addressed some initial challenges, including minor water leaks from construction, which have been promptly addressed by Tim Newman's roofing company. He also mentioned the installation of new storefront signage by SureSigns, which is expected to be completed shortly.
On a more pressing note, Wade discussed ongoing concerns regarding vehicle break-ins, particularly the theft of firearms. He urged the community to remain vigilant, as criminals are actively scouting for valuable items, especially guns. While recent incidents of theft have been deterred in Sunbury, he emphasized the importance of community awareness and reporting suspicious activities.
The Deputy Chief also reported two recent police pursuits: one involving a suicidal individual and another concerning a suspect who had stolen a vehicle from Wooster. The latter was apprehended with the help of Genoa Township officers after attempting to shop at Kroger.
Lastly, Wade reflected on a recent community engagement event at Walnut Trail, which he regrettably missed but noted was well-received, with positive interactions reported by Chief of Police. The department continues to foster strong relationships with the community as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance public safety.
