Courthouse expansion project set to transform legal landscape

In a recent government meeting, officials gathered to discuss the ongoing expansion of the Deschutes County courthouse, a project aimed at enhancing judicial facilities and improving security measures. The meeting featured key figures including county commissioners, circuit court judges, and administrative staff, who provided updates on the construction progress and future plans.

Facilities Director Ken Lee Randall outlined the project's scope, which includes the addition of three levels and over 50,000 square feet of space. This expansion will increase the number of courtrooms, enhance court registration areas, and improve in-custody holding and transport facilities. He explained that the construction team is currently working on utility installations and preparing for the installation of a tower crane, which is expected to begin shortly.

A significant aspect of the expansion is the installation of a backup generator, which will ensure that court operations can continue during power outages. This addition is a critical improvement, as the courthouse previously lacked a reliable backup power source.
