Seymour High School has achieved notable academic recognition, earning the AP College Board AP Honor Roll Silver Award for the 2023 academic year. This accolade reflects the school's commitment to fostering a college-ready culture, with 52% of last year's graduating seniors taking at least one Advanced Placement (AP) course, surpassing the 40% threshold required for the award.
The recognition is based on three key metrics: the percentage of students taking AP courses, the percentage scoring 3 or higher on AP exams, and the percentage of students who took five or more AP exams, including at least one in their freshman or sophomore years. Seymour High School reported that 39% of graduates scored 3 or higher on AP exams, while 12% took five or more AP exams, marking the highest percentage in this category for the school.
In addition to the AP achievements, Seymour High School celebrated the success of two students, Sarah Brindley and Justina Hunt, who were recognized as Commended Students in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Out of over one million students who took the Preliminary SAT, they ranked among the top 50,000, showcasing their exceptional academic promise.
The meeting also highlighted the school's vibrant extracurricular activities, including a successful soccer season, with the team currently ranked third in the state. The school plans to host a movie night on the Aspen Cass football field, further engaging the community.
Overall, these accomplishments reflect Seymour High School's dedication to academic excellence and student involvement, setting a strong foundation for future achievements.
