The Westin Board of Education convened for its first meeting of the 2024-2025 school year, welcoming new members and approving minutes from previous meetings. Notably, David Felton was appointed as the new chair of the curriculum committee, succeeding Dr. Kingsley, who has left the board. Lisa Luft will also join the committee as a representative to CAPE.
During the meeting, student representatives Jess Sharma and Emily Krieger from the high school shared updates on school activities. They reported a successful start to the academic year, highlighted by the annual Trojan Kickoff pep rally, which boosted school spirit and attendance at sporting events, particularly football games. The student body has also received blue light glasses from donor Mr. Leary, which have been well-received.
Looking ahead, the student government is organizing several events, including a senior class field trip to Jordan's Furniture Adventure Park on October 16, coinciding with PSAT day for other grades. Spirit Week is scheduled from September 30 to October 4, culminating in homecoming festivities. The homecoming game will feature a themed float competition among grades, with themes representing various cities. The homecoming dance is set for October 5, with tickets priced at $20.
The board expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming events and the continued engagement of student representatives in future meetings.
