Monrovia bids farewell to beloved community development director

During a recent city council meeting in Monrovia, California, Mayor Becky Shevlin proclaimed November 2024 as Pulmonary Hypertension Awareness Month, emphasizing the importance of raising awareness about the challenges faced by individuals with pulmonary hypertension and their families. The proclamation was made ahead of the Pulmonary Hypertension Association's \"Breathe\" event scheduled for November 2 at the Monrovia Public Library, which will honor the memory of Joni Ewell.

The meeting also featured a heartfelt recognition of retiring Community Development Director Craig Jimenez, who has served the city for nearly three decades. City Manager Dylan Feek highlighted Jimenez's significant contributions, including his role in the historic preservation of 168 homes and the development of key projects such as the Krekorian Theatre and the Station Square Transit Village. Jimenez expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the community, reflecting on the collaborative spirit of the city staff and the support he received throughout his career.

As Jimenez prepares to retire on Halloween, the council acknowledged his impact on Monrovia's development and the legacy he leaves behind. The council also introduced Sherry Bermejo as the new Community Development Director, who has been with the city for nearly ten years and is expected to continue the positive trajectory established by Jimenez. Bermejo expressed her commitment to uphold the values of the Monrovia community and to lead the department with the same dedication that has characterized Jimenez's tenure.
