Recovery efforts are ongoing in the aftermath of Hurricane Helena, with Tyler Sanitation increasing its yard debris collection frequency to daily service across Friarsgate and surrounding neighborhoods. This initiative aims to expedite the removal of storm debris, with residents encouraged to place their debris at the curb for assessment. A plan is set to be implemented next week for the removal of larger items that Tyler Sanitation cannot handle.
In the immediate response to the hurricane, over 22 pallets of water were distributed to affected communities, thanks to a generous donation from Walmart, which delivered a 53-foot tractor trailer to Irmo. Public works teams have been actively engaged in debris removal, including the disposal of more than 20 fallen trees in local parks. Officials noted the town's resilience in recovery efforts, highlighting that it is in better shape compared to other cities and counties affected by the storm.
Additionally, the comprehensive plan for the town is nearing completion, with a draft currently available on the town's website. A classification and compensation study is also underway, with staff surveys being circulated, and completion expected by the end of 2024. The town is implementing a new agenda management system, which may result in changes to document layouts and fonts.
The council recently adopted a civility pledge, which has been installed in the council chambers. Auditors are scheduled to present their findings in November, coinciding with election day, which will not include a workshop.
In other news, several new businesses have opened in the town, including Viola Adams Counseling, Lice Luxe Beauty, Peaceful Paws Healing LLC, Brandy Blake Designs, and MP Williams Massage Therapy, all welcomed by the council.
