In a recent government meeting, officials discussed the allocation of nearly $1.6 million for construction fund projects, emphasizing that these initiatives support the Downtown Development Authority's (DDA) development plans. The funding will utilize over $4 million in Tax Increment Financing (TIF) dollars accumulated from previous years, with a significant portion earmarked for various projects.
The DDA's Executive Director, Kimberly McKay, outlined several key projects, including a $150,000 mural around a parking structure and a comprehensive branding audit aimed at enhancing the district's appeal. Additionally, the DDA plans to invest in clean and safe programming to address maintenance issues in public spaces and to support economic vitality through recommendations from a national retail consultant.
McKay also highlighted the need for a new holiday tree and the ongoing efforts to improve the appearance of 600 Main, a property identified as needing rehabilitation. The meeting underscored the importance of collaboration between the city and the DDA, particularly regarding infrastructure improvements and community enhancements.
In a separate discussion, city officials addressed staffing challenges, revealing that there are currently 21 positions open for recruitment, including ongoing efforts to fully staff the police department. The meeting concluded with a commitment to continue addressing these staffing needs while implementing the discussed projects to foster community growth and development.
