In a recent government meeting, Glenwood Elementary School received notable recognition as a National Blue Ribbon School for 2024, marking it as one of only 356 schools nationwide and one of six in Tennessee to achieve this honor. This accolade highlights Glenwood's status as an exemplary high-performing institution, reflecting significant improvements in state assessments over the past seven years. Since 2017, the school's success rates in English Language Arts (ELA) and math have nearly doubled, and it has been recognized as a reward school by the Tennessee Department of Education for the last two years. This recognition follows a similar honor awarded to Linden Elementary in 2023, making it the second consecutive year that an Oak Ridge school has received this prestigious designation.
The meeting also included a public forum segment, allowing community members to address the board on various topics. However, no participants chose to speak during this time. Following the forum, the board unanimously approved the consent agenda, which included various student trips across the district. Notable trips mentioned included the Robertsville School's visit to Williamsburg, the Oak Ridge High School cheerleading team's trip to Orlando, and the boys' and girls' basketball teams traveling to Franklin, Tennessee, and Pensacola, Florida, respectively. The board expressed gratitude to the sponsors and chaperones who make these educational trips possible.
