During a recent government meeting, discussions centered on honoring local veterans and commemorating their sacrifices throughout various conflicts. Historian Richard Howe, Jr. provided a detailed account of the number of soldiers from Lowell who lost their lives in different wars, totaling 1,278. This figure includes 646 from the Civil War, 32 from the Spanish-American War, 111 from World War I, 436 from World War II, 31 from the Korean War, 20 from the Vietnam War, and one each from the Persian Gulf War and the Global War on Terror.

In an effort to honor these individuals, the city plans to publish an extensive list of names on its website, allowing families and friends to access information about their loved ones. Doreen, a city representative, has been instrumental in facilitating this initiative.

Council members expressed their gratitude towards veterans and emphasized the importance of publicizing upcoming events to ensure family members can participate. Councillor Mercier highlighted the significance of planting flags at designated locations, such as Whitney and in front of City Hall, to represent each fallen soldier.
