During a recent government meeting, officials provided an update on ongoing Brownfield projects, particularly focusing on the Denoias dry cleaners and adjacent properties in Northville. While no specific projects required approval, the board was informed of significant developments regarding environmental assessments in the area.
Over the past couple of years, the board has allocated funds for Brownfield studies at the Denoias site, as the current owners are looking to sell the business. Recent soil testing at the dry cleaners revealed potential issues, prompting further investigation at a nearby gas station. Although there are currently no public health concerns, officials emphasized the importance of thorough testing to ensure community safety.
The state has requested additional testing, including indoor air assessments, to determine if any contaminants are present. Officials reassured the board that if air testing yields no issues, further soil mitigation may not be necessary. Results from these tests will be shared with the community once available.
In addition to the Brownfield discussions, the meeting also touched on inclusive town planning efforts led by the Belonging and Inclusion Committee, formerly known as the JEDI committee. The committee has been developing an inclusive planning document, which has been reviewed multiple times by the board.
The meeting underscored the commitment of local officials to address environmental concerns while promoting inclusivity in town planning initiatives.
