In a recent government meeting, city officials discussed critical infrastructure improvements in response to ongoing development projects, particularly the Findlay Crossing development. Director Jeremy Parson highlighted the need for immediate repairs on 11th Street, which is currently suffering from increased traffic due to construction activities. The city has opted to delay certain road repairs to avoid further damage from construction vehicles.
The proposed improvements include a base bid focused on microsurfacing smaller downtown streets, which is a cost-effective solution compared to traditional overlays. Parson noted that microsurfacing has proven beneficial for maintaining road conditions at a fraction of the cost, allowing for better weather protection.
The bidding process for the roadwork has faced challenges, initially attracting only one bid, which was deemed unsatisfactory. After reissuing the bid, the city received two proposals, ultimately settling on a contract with a familiar contractor, Daryl Morteck Construction Incorporated. The urgency of the repairs was emphasized, with officials aiming to commence work before winter sets in.
Additionally, the meeting addressed a developer cost-sharing agreement with Flat Creek Excavating LLC for improvements to 11th Street, further integrating public and private efforts to enhance local infrastructure. The council moved to expedite the approval process for these bills, reflecting a proactive approach to managing the city's growing infrastructure needs amidst ongoing development.
