In a heartfelt ceremony, the city of San Marcos, Texas, officially proclaimed September 17, 2024, as Doctor Daniel Rojo Recognition Day, honoring the legacy of the first Hispanic physician in the area. Doctor Rojo, who served the community from 1930 until his passing in 1978, is celebrated for his unwavering commitment to healthcare and his significant contributions to the Mexican American community.

Born in Hidalgo, Mexico, in 1904, Doctor Rojo pursued his medical education at the prestigious Escuela Nacional de Medicina in Mexico City, graduating in 1928. His early career included roles as a medical examiner for the police department and serving the artist union in Mexico City. In 1929, he moved to San Marcos, where he established his first clinic in the 1930s, becoming a beacon of hope and healing for marginalized citizens.

Throughout his career, Doctor Rojo was known for his compassionate care during challenging times, including economic turmoil and societal upheaval. He was instrumental in founding Mutualista Cuauhtemoc in 1942, advocating for the Mexican American community and addressing issues such as educational discrimination and public health crises.

The proclamation was presented by Mayor Jane Houston, who emphasized the importance of recognizing Doctor Rojo's contributions to the city. Family members, including his daughter Belinda Rojo Arredondo and granddaughter Adela Rojo Davis, attended the ceremony, expressing gratitude for the honor bestowed upon their beloved patriarch.
