During a recent government meeting, officials discussed several community initiatives and financial updates, including the allocation of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds.
The meeting began with announcements highlighting a community event aimed at raising awareness and funds for breast cancer research, organized by local employees. The event will take place in Excelsior, with online activities also available. Additionally, a community connect activity is scheduled for October 27th at Big Lake Middle School, fostering local engagement.
Three key ARPA-related expenditures were approved during the session. The first was a $22,768.50 allocation for HR business partner costs, which are being phased into the levy. The second expenditure, totaling $53,000, is designated for an IT cybersecurity project. This software will enhance the county's ability to monitor and respond to potential cyber threats in real-time.
The third project involves a $54,000 allocation for cybersecurity insurance premiums, which will help cover increased coverage limits. Officials noted that while some coverage is provided by the Minnesota Counties Intergovernmental Trust (MCIT), additional insurance is necessary.
As of now, approximately $35,000 of ARPA funds remain, earmarked for broadband projects pending state approval. If these projects are not awarded, the funds may be redirected to other initiatives.
The meeting concluded with a call for commissioner correspondence and discussions on upcoming meetings, emphasizing the ongoing commitment to community engagement and financial oversight.
