During a recent government meeting, Alex Campbell and his students presented their award-winning short film created for the Spring 2024 Story Experiential Short Film Competition, a program founded by former Pixar employees aimed at teaching storytelling techniques. The competition involved thousands of students nationwide, who participated in a comprehensive 10-week curriculum that guided them through the process of developing a story, creating characters, and producing a short film.
The students' project focused on the pressing issue of drug addiction, inspired by a guest speaker from Recovery Soldiers Missionaries. One student shared insights gained from the project, emphasizing the emotional impact of drug addiction beyond what textbooks convey. The experience not only deepened their understanding of the struggles faced by individuals in their community but also highlighted the importance of compassion and support for those affected by addiction.
The students expressed pride in their work and a commitment to seeking further opportunities to assist their community, recognizing the widespread challenges related to drug addiction and the need for awareness and kindness towards those in need. Their film was one of three selected as the best in the competition, showcasing their dedication and the significance of their message. The meeting concluded with commendations for the students' efforts and the importance of addressing social issues through creative storytelling.
