During a recent government meeting, students from Northside and Warner Robins High Schools showcased their academic achievements, particularly in Advanced Placement (AP) testing. The event highlighted the impressive performance of students who scored a perfect 5 on various AP exams, with Northside presenting 10 students compared to three from the previous year. This year, the students traveled to the meeting via school bus, symbolizing a growing recognition of their accomplishments.
Assistant Principal Shelley Holmes from Warner Robins High School expressed gratitude to the board for their support of AP testing, noting the financial relief provided to students and their families. The meeting featured numerous students proudly sharing their scores, with many achieving top marks in subjects such as AP US History, AP Environmental Science, and AP Psychology.
Board member Mr. Nichols delivered an inspiring message, emphasizing the hard work and dedication of students, parents, and educators in the community. He highlighted that 252 students scored a perfect 5 on their AP exams last year, reflecting the high standards and achievements within the school system.
Superintendent Dr. Scott also shared significant accomplishments, including Fagan Mill Middle School being named a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School, a prestigious recognition awarded to only ten schools in Georgia. He noted that Houston County students outperformed both state and national averages on the SAT for the eighth consecutive year, with the class of 2024 achieving a mean score of 1,054.
Additionally, the district continues its partnership with the Houston County Health Department to provide free flu vaccinations to students and employees, marking the 16th year of this initiative. The meeting concluded with a sense of pride in the educational achievements and community support that foster student success in Houston County.
