During a recent government meeting, the Board of Supervisors approved the appointment of Kristen Hobert as the parent representative for the Community Planning and Management Team (CPMT). The motion, made by Supervisor Hodge and seconded by Supervisor O'Brien, passed unanimously with a vote of 4-0. Hobert, a local resident, expressed her desire to give back to the county, highlighting her commitment to community service.
The meeting also featured a detailed recap of the 2024 County Fair, presented by Mr. Spitzer. This year, the fair attracted 7,887 paying guests, a decrease attributed to inclement weather on the event's Saturday. Despite this, the county's revenue from gate sales and carnival rides increased slightly to nearly $48,000, up from $45,000 the previous year. The county's expenses for the fair were reported at just over $27,000, with significant savings achieved through grant funding and careful budgeting.
Mr. Spitzer noted that the fair continues to grow, distinguishing itself as one of the few county fairs in the state experiencing an upward trend. He mentioned plans to introduce new attractions, including outdoor wrestling, to draw more visitors in the future. Additionally, a special events day for individuals with special needs was highlighted, showcasing the fair's commitment to inclusivity.
The fair board's efforts were praised for their role in enhancing the event's offerings and ensuring its continued success. The meeting concluded with expressions of gratitude for the hard work of the fair board and volunteers, emphasizing the community's positive reception of the fair and its activities.
