Fire Prevention Week is set to take place from October 6th to October 12th, with a particular emphasis on the importance of smoke alarms. Fire Chief Doug Williams highlighted the critical role these devices play in ensuring safety within homes.
During the meeting, Chief Williams underscored that smoke alarms provide essential early warnings in the event of a fire, significantly reducing the risk of fatalities by up to 50%. He stressed that having functional smoke alarms is vital, especially for those who may be asleep when a fire occurs.
In a community-focused initiative, Sedgwick County has announced that it will install smoke alarms free of charge for residents living within Fire District 1. This program aims to enhance fire safety and protect families from potential fire hazards.
