In a recent government meeting, officials outlined several initiatives aimed at enhancing community safety and wellness in Greendale. Among the key discussions was the implementation of the Safer Streets for All grant, which will introduce demonstration projects including speed bumps and speed trailers in the downtown area. This initiative is set to roll out in early October.
Additionally, the village is gearing up for the Step Up to Better Health Run Walk Roll event on October 20, which features a 5K run and a 2-mile walk. This event aims to support local schools and promote community wellness.
The meeting also highlighted ongoing efforts to improve pedestrian safety through various outreach programs. These include social media campaigns, a Falls Prevention Workshop, and the GEA-sponsored Park and Rec Hallway Walkers Program. Updated walking maps will be distributed and made available for pickup at the Greendale Safety Center starting October 1, 2024.
During the meeting, citizens were reminded of the guidelines for public comments, which are limited to three minutes per individual, or five minutes for group representatives, with a total comment period not exceeding 30 minutes. The Village Board emphasized that discussions would be confined to agenda items, ensuring an orderly process for addressing community concerns.
