A new initiative aimed at reducing suicide rates in Wyoming has been launched, named PROSPER, which stands for Proactive Reduction of Suicides and Populations via Evidence-Based Resource Research. This program is part of a broader effort by the governor's office to address mental health challenges within the state.
Dr. Kent Caruso is leading the three-year project, which includes comprehensive training for first responders. The initial training session took place in Natrona County and spanned two days, focusing on equipping responders with the necessary skills and knowledge to address suicide prevention effectively. Following the training, a community event was held to further engage the public and promote awareness around the issue.
The initiative emphasizes the importance of standardizing the language used in discussions about mental health and suicide, aiming to foster a more informed and supportive community response. As the program progresses, it seeks to implement evidence-based strategies to combat the rising concerns surrounding mental health and suicide in Wyoming.
