In a recent government meeting, officials discussed the successful recreation of a historical memorial that honors Clover High School students who served in the military. The original marker, which had been lost during construction at Kynard Elementary School, was replicated thanks to a photograph provided by community member Ed Stewart. The new six-foot tall, four-foot wide memorial now stands at Memorial Stadium, with an inscription recognizing the class of 1943. The community is encouraged to visit the memorial, and plans for a formal unveiling are in the works.
The meeting also highlighted recent academic performance results from the SC Ready assessments for students in grades 3 through 8, as well as end-of-course scores for high school students. While there was a slight decline in English Language Arts (ELA) scores, the district remains above pre-pandemic levels. Concerns were raised about pacing due to a modified calendar and test fatigue from multiple assessments. The district plans to enhance support for writing instruction, as performance in this area has not met expectations.
In mathematics, the district is close to pre-pandemic performance levels, with some grade levels showing improvement. Changes in course sequencing are anticipated to strengthen foundational skills for students. The introduction of new digital and print materials is expected to further support ELA instruction.
Science assessments for 4th and 6th graders were primarily field tests this year, with full accountability expected in the upcoming testing cycle. High school end-of-course assessments showed notable gains, particularly in Algebra 1, where a 15 percentage point increase was reported, with 76% of students earning a C or better. English 2 scores also improved, while Biology and U.S. History scores remained stable.
Overall, the discussions underscored the district's commitment to improving educational outcomes and honoring community heritage through the memorial.
