In a recent forum hosted by Saline High School students, seven candidates vying for positions on the Saline Area Schools Board of Education presented their qualifications and visions for the district. The event, moderated by student representatives, aimed to engage the community and provide insight into the candidates' motivations and goals.

Each candidate was allotted two minutes for opening statements, during which they shared personal backgrounds and their reasons for running. Kelly Van Single emphasized her passion for literacy development and inclusion, highlighting her experience as a parent of children with disabilities. Jason Tiziz, who has lived in the district for nine years, expressed his commitment to enhancing educational experiences based on his dual perspective of observing different school systems.

Jennifer Stebben, the current vice president of the board, focused on her long-standing dedication to the community and her goals of ensuring high academic achievement and student safety. Brad Gerbe, a trustee with four years of experience, spoke about his efforts in school finance and the importance of maintaining a strong fund balance.

Susan Eastep, running for reelection, highlighted her involvement in student affairs and her commitment to representation as the first openly LGBTQ+ board member. Darcy Barwick, a long-time volunteer and substitute teacher, shared her dedication to maintaining the district's reputation as a top educational destination. Lastly, Sherry Barnett, with extensive experience in clinical research and education, expressed her desire to leverage her background to benefit the school board.
