During a recent city council meeting, HWEA Director Derek Watts, represented by Mister Lancaster, highlighted the achievements of the water treatment team, emphasizing their dedication and expertise. Lancaster recognized several key employees, including Nikki Chambers, the supervisor of the water treatment plant with 28 years of experience, and David Blaine, the director of engineering, who has over 30 years in the field.
The meeting showcased HWEA's recent accolades, including the prestigious Water Treatment Plant of the Year award from the Kentucky Water and Wastewater Operators Association for excellence in water quality and technological advancements. This recognition marks a significant achievement, as it is the first win for HWEA since 1997, following several years as a finalist.
Additionally, HWEA received a state award from the Kentucky and Tennessee American Water Works Association, recognizing outstanding operational records and maintenance professionalism. The organization also celebrated safety achievements, including the Governor's Safety Award for over 600,000 hours of work without a major accident, and the national Wendell LeDoux Safety Award from the American Water Works Association, which honors exceptional safety records among Class 2 water utilities nationwide.
