Centre County is poised for economic growth with the unveiling of its new Economic Development Strategic Plan, developed by the Centre County Business and Industry Coalition (CBICC). Executive Director Greg Scott presented the plan during a recent commissioners' meeting, highlighting its collaborative nature and the extensive input gathered from over 150 local stakeholders, including employers and community members.
The strategic plan, which has been in development for nearly a year, aims to address the economic challenges faced by the region, particularly in the wake of the pandemic. It identifies four key areas of focus: business retention and expansion, targeted and emerging industries, workforce and education, and the built and natural environment. These areas are designed to foster sustainable growth and enhance the quality of life for residents.
Commissioners expressed their support for the plan, emphasizing its hyperlocal approach and the importance of retaining existing businesses while attracting new ones. The plan is set to be publicly unveiled at the Voice of Business luncheon on October 9, where further details and recommendations will be shared.
In addition to the economic development discussions, the meeting also covered a resolution to support a Keystone Recreation Park and Conservation grant application for the expansion of the Centre Hall branch of the county library. This project, which has been in planning for nearly a decade, aims to address the growing needs of the community by providing more space for programming and resources. The library is seeking a maximum grant of $750,000, which would require a matching contribution from the county.
Both initiatives reflect the county's commitment to enhancing community resources and fostering economic resilience, with the commissioners expressing optimism about the potential impacts of these developments on Centre County's future.
