In a recent government meeting, officials discussed a significant residential development project in downtown Bethesda that aims to enhance affordable housing options and public amenities. The project will feature a total of 70 residential units, with 15% designated for households earning 70% of the Area Median Income (AMI) and an additional 11 units set aside for those at 50% AMI. The housing mix will include studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units.
A key aspect of the development is the inclusion of a public parking garage, which will provide 145 spaces beneath the residential building. Additionally, the project will incorporate a half-acre public park that will extend the Eastern Greenway, promoting green space in the urban environment.
Another component of the development involves Lot 44, which will offer approximately 46 condominium units. Similar to the previous project, 15% of these units will be affordable at 50% AMI, featuring a mix of one, two, and three-bedroom options. Notably, the agreement includes discounted condo fees for the affordable units, making them more accessible to low-income residents.
The meeting also provided visual representations of the proposed developments, highlighting the integration of public parks with residential spaces. Officials expressed their commitment to fostering community development through these initiatives, which aim to address housing affordability and enhance public spaces in the area. The meeting concluded with an invitation for questions from attendees, indicating ongoing engagement with the community regarding the project.
