Residents of Seal Cove voiced strong opposition to a proposed development during a recent government meeting, raising significant concerns about drainage, design, and geological hazards associated with the project.

Local resident, who lives adjacent to the proposed site, highlighted issues with the drainage plan, asserting that the proposed trench would be inadequate to handle winter storms, leading to potential flooding that could impact neighboring properties. The speaker emphasized that the current vegetation on the lot absorbs substantial rainwater, and the proposed development would eliminate this natural drainage solution, exacerbating erosion along the beach.

Diane Kavanaugh, another local property owner, echoed these concerns, criticizing the county's infrastructure planning and the proposed concrete drainage solution, which she argued would not effectively manage stormwater. Kavanaugh urged the planning commission to delay approval until a comprehensive drainage plan is developed, citing the area's history of flooding and inadequate stormwater management.

Michelle Wyle, who lives next door to the proposed site, raised alarms about the active earthquake fault in the area, which poses a significant risk to the proposed development. She referenced conflicting reports from the project's geologist regarding the fault's location and urged the commission to deny the permit until the fault's position is conclusively determined. Wyle also expressed concerns about the project's design, stating it would obstruct views from her home and disrupt the character of the neighborhood.

The planning commission was urged to consider these serious concerns before moving forward with the project, as residents fear that the proposed development could lead to increased flooding, safety hazards, and a detrimental impact on the community's aesthetic and environmental integrity.
