During a recent government meeting, House Resolution 1449 was introduced, condemning the global rise of antisemitism and urging countries and international bodies to take action against it. The resolution, co-sponsored by Congresswoman Manning and Congressman Chris Smith, highlights the alarming increase in antisemitic incidents worldwide, particularly following the Hamas terrorist attack on October 7, 2023, which marked the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust.

Manning emphasized the urgency of addressing antisemitism, noting that FBI data indicates a nearly 63% rise in anti-Jewish hate crimes in the U.S. in 2023, the highest level recorded in nearly three decades. Despite Jewish Americans representing only about 2% of the U.S. population, they accounted for over 15% of all hate crimes reported, underscoring the disproportionate impact of antisemitism.

The resolution also acknowledges recent progress in combating antisemitism, including the establishment of international frameworks and guidelines aimed at addressing this issue. Notably, the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance has developed a working definition of antisemitism, and more than 40 countries have endorsed new global guidelines for combating hate against Jews.

Manning called for a unified international response, urging governments to condemn antisemitism, ensure the safety of Jewish communities, enforce hate crime laws, and educate future generations about the Holocaust. The resolution aims to strengthen global efforts to counter antisemitism and prevent its normalization, reflecting a bipartisan commitment to this critical issue.
