Throughout the month, the technology services team will disseminate information on phishing emails intercepted by their security systems, alongside practical tips for identifying and reporting such threats. Notably, an alarming statistic was shared: approximately 91% of cyber attacks initiate through phishing exploits. The meeting highlighted recent ransomware incidents affecting neighboring districts, underscoring the urgency of robust cybersecurity measures. The district is collaborating with state and federal cybersecurity agencies, as well as other local school districts, to mitigate vulnerabilities while ensuring necessary access to digital resources.

Significant strides have already been made in enhancing cybersecurity protocols. Two years ago, the district implemented multi-factor authentication, followed by data encryption on all devices last year. Currently, efforts are underway to tighten staff privileges on computer devices, with a strategic plan set to be rolled out this year.
