The September 16th city council meeting opened with a moment of silence followed by the Pledge of Allegiance, led by Mayor Hellyer. The roll call confirmed the attendance of council members Michelle Volk, Luke Kelleher, John Bermel, Dan Walter, and Joshua Lee.
During the citizens' comments segment, resident Howard Schneider addressed the council, inviting them to participate in the upcoming 16th annual community bike ride. Schneider emphasized the importance of community engagement during challenging times, stating that the event aims to foster unity. This year’s bike ride will cover 18.5 miles, incorporating new trails and three tunnels, and will feature a family-friendly route around Lake Marion, complete with a scout scavenger hunt and coloring activities for children.
Schneider noted that despite a forecast of potential rain, the event has never been canceled due to weather. He reported nearly 30 participants already signed up and encouraged more community involvement. The bike ride is scheduled to begin at 9:30 AM at Pioneer Park, coinciding with other local events such as a book sale at the heritage library, an art fair, and a farmer's market.
The meeting proceeded with no additional citizen comments, and Mr. Miller reported no further agenda items for discussion.
