During a recent government meeting, the committee discussed the upcoming participation of Wreaths Across America, a nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring veterans by placing wreaths on graves in military cemeteries. Established in 2007, the organization successfully placed 544 wreaths at Hillside Cemetery last year and is seeking to expand its efforts this year.
Amy, who introduced the topic in the absence of committee member Justin, noted the positive reception of last year's program and emphasized the department's full support. However, the committee outlined specific requests for this year's initiative. They stipulated that no items should be driven into the ground during the wreath placement. Instead, any necessary supports should be wooden, standing four feet above the ground, with the top six inches painted orange for easy identification and removal.
Additionally, the committee requested that Wreaths Across America obtain permission from the Catholic Lutheran cemeteries before proceeding. They also highlighted the importance of the organization being responsible for any potential damage that may occur as a result of the program.
The discussions reflect a commitment to honoring veterans while ensuring that the program adheres to local regulations and respects cemetery grounds.
