During a recent government meeting, officials discussed the urgent need for expansion at York Tech due to a significant increase in student applications. Currently, York Tech can only accommodate about half of the 1,000 students who apply each year, resulting in over 500 students being turned away. To address this issue, a feasibility study is set to begin in October, which will explore options for modifying existing facilities or constructing new ones to meet the growing demand.
In addition to the York Tech discussions, the meeting touched on the York Adams Academy, which approved a new brochure and a backup server. The board also ratified a lease agreement between York Adams County and Lincoln Intermediate for a three-year term starting July 1, 2025.
The meeting also highlighted ongoing discussions regarding a potential joint venture involving the Intermediate Unit (IU) and York Tech, with plans to possibly relocate the IU's New York running facility to the tech campus. This initiative is still in the early stages, pending the results of the feasibility study.
Furthermore, the meeting noted the recent passing of the IU's general counsel, prompting the retention of a new legal firm to provide counsel moving forward. The meeting concluded without public comments and adjourned with plans for a follow-up session scheduled for the 15th.
