Mount Defiance Cidery and Distillery is set to celebrate its 10th anniversary in August 2024, marking a significant milestone for the business that began in an old gas station in Middleburg. During a recent town council meeting, members expressed their congratulations and appreciation for the cidery's contributions to the community, highlighting its commitment to quality and local sourcing.
The cidery, known for its handcrafted small-batch hard cider and spirits, has evolved over the years, now focusing more on wholesale distribution while maintaining a retail presence. Mark Krejtian, the owner, noted that the business is expanding its facilities to accommodate growing demand.
The council also acknowledged Mount Defiance's efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly its production of hand sanitizer when supplies were scarce. Krejtian shared that the cidery donated high-proof rum to create the sanitizer, navigating regulatory challenges to ensure compliance while helping the community.
The resolution passed by the council applauded the cidery's dedication and service, expressing hope for many more successful years ahead. The meeting concluded with a unanimous vote in favor of recognizing Mount Defiance Cidery and Distillery for its achievements and community involvement.
