The City of Forest Park held its third public hearing regarding the proposed millage rate for 2024, which is set to increase by 1.57% due to rising property values. Despite maintaining the millage rate at 16.74 mills, the increase in property valuations will lead to higher property taxes for residents. For a home valued at $100,000, this translates to an approximate tax increase of $10.40.
During the meeting, city officials emphasized that the proposed increase is solely a result of property value adjustments, not an increase in the millage rate itself. Council members unanimously supported the motion to approve the proposed millage rate increase after a brief public discussion, which saw no opposition from attendees.
In addition to the millage discussion, the council approved several consent agenda items, including a request for blanket purchase orders and the purchase of firefighter uniforms through a cooperative agreement with Reed's Uniforms LLC. The council clarified that this cooperative purchasing method allows them to utilize contracts established by other municipalities, ensuring compliance and efficiency in procurement.
The meeting concluded with the approval of a budget amendment for all funds to finalize year-end accounts and a request for the Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Grant application. Council members expressed their support for these initiatives, highlighting the city's commitment to fiscal responsibility and community development.
