In a recent meeting of the Cooper City Commission, officials voted to reduce the millage rate from 5.865 to 5.855, a move aimed at easing the tax burden on residents. The resolution passed unanimously, with all commissioners, including Mayor Ross, expressing their support.
The meeting also addressed the tentative budget for the fiscal year 2024-2025, which is set to be finalized in a second public hearing scheduled for September 24, 2024. Commissioners acknowledged that while the proposed budget numbers are accurate, there are structural issues within the budget that will need to be addressed in the final version.
Additionally, a motion was approved to allocate $400,000 for the construction of an all-inclusive playground, which will include safety features to ensure the well-being of children. This funding will be incorporated into the amended budget to be reviewed in the upcoming hearing.
The commission's discussions reflect a commitment to fiscal responsibility while also prioritizing community needs, particularly in enhancing recreational facilities for families.
