In a recent government meeting, Recreation Manager Erin Radke provided an update on the successful summer camp initiatives and future plans for community engagement. Radke highlighted a notable partnership with the mayor's fund, Odyssey radio station, and Findlay car distributions, which culminated in a swimsuit drive that collected a total of 757 items. This included 149 swimsuits, 466 beach towels, 36 swim diaper packages, and 106 pairs of goggles.
The initiative aimed to address the need for appropriate swim attire at local outdoor pools and the municipal pool, ensuring compliance with health district guidelines. Radke noted that the project was conceived earlier in the year and was executed with the help of Savante, the recreation supervisor, and the communications team. The timing of the donation was crucial, as it arrived just before the end of summer, allowing for immediate distribution to families in need.
Looking ahead, Radke announced plans to organize another swimsuit drive in early 2024, targeting January or February, to ensure that items are available by May for the upcoming summer season. The collected beach towels will also be utilized as incentives for swim programs and discounts, further enhancing community engagement in recreational activities. The meeting underscored the importance of collaboration in addressing community needs and promoting youth participation in local programs.
