During a recent government meeting, the City of Las Vegas officials discussed the expansion of community programs aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents. The meeting highlighted the importance of the City of Las Vegas 2050 Master Plan, particularly its implications for parks and recreation.
Planning Project Manager Marco Velotta presented an overview of the 2050 plan, which was adopted in 2021. He emphasized that the plan outlines the city's vision for future development, covering various aspects such as land use, transportation, housing, and parks. A significant component of this plan is the Imagine LV Parks system plan, adopted in 2023, which serves as a detailed supplement focusing on parks and open spaces.
Velotta noted that the Imagine LV Parks plan aims to assess the current parks and recreation system, identify potential revenue sources, and enhance service offerings. He acknowledged the contributions of various consultants, including Smith Group, who played a crucial role in the development of both the 2050 plan and the parks system plan.
The overarching goals of the 2050 plan include promoting equity, resilience, health, livability, and innovation within the parks system. Velotta also mentioned that public outreach efforts, including surveys, were conducted to gather community feedback on the parks and recreation needs, ensuring that the plan reflects the demographics and preferences of Las Vegas residents.
The discussions underscored the city's commitment to improving recreational facilities and services, aligning with the broader vision set forth in the 2050 Master Plan.
